What is taping and how does it affect our body?

Czym jest taping i jaki ma wpływ na nasze ciało?

What is taping and how does it affect our body? Human muscles work hard every day, even when a person is not physically active. Thanks to them, we can move, lift weights. Importantly, they are responsible for the proper functioning of the circulatory and lymphatic systems. Unfortunately, their frequent stretching or contraction results in injuries in the form of inflammation, which is often accompanied by pain. An increasingly popular method of treating this type of ailment is taping, which is used not only by athletes, but also by all other people who value its effectiveness.

What is taping?

Taping, or kinesiotaping or dynamic taping, is a method based on sticking specific areas of the body with special patches. Thanks to it, you can prevent all kinds of injuries and reduce pain. Importantly, such therapy can work around the clock, is safe and completely painless. Taping is chosen by professional athletes who are exposed to frequent injuries, as well as people who do not practice sports. Such plastering is able to reduce back pain, prevent calf cramps and improve circulation.

The patches used in kinesiotaping are very flexible and made of cotton and acrylic glue.

They do not cause discomfort because they are very thin and light. Importantly, these products are waterproof and breathable. Their big advantage is that we can wear them for a few days or even for a few weeks, until the patch peels off. This interesting therapeutic method was developed in the early 1970s by the Japanese doctor Kenzo Kase. It was only in the 90s that it gained immense popularity, which has not diminished to this day.

How does taping work and what effects does it give?

Slicing selected parts of the body works in a versatile way. The patches affect, among others, joints, muscles and the lymphatic system. They have the properties of alleviating the unpleasant symptoms associated with injuries and diseases. Kinesiology tape placed on the body leads to the lifting of the epidermis, thanks to which the space between the skin and muscles and the fascia surrounding them increases.

This has a positive effect on the functioning of the lymphatic system. Lymph circulates more efficiently and natural lymphatic drainage is noticeable, which reduces swelling and helps in tissue regeneration. The force of pressure on the receptors located on the skin responsible for feeling pain is reduced, which makes it less severe for us. The excessive sensitivity of the skin to stimuli is also reduced.

Properly applied rehabilitation patches improve muscle tone, get rid of fatigue, reduce muscle spasms and improve their range of motion. In addition, this method is able to restore the proper position of the articular surfaces, and thus improves their motor abilities.

The effects of body patching

          • reduction of the feeling of limitation of the range of motion of the limbs,
          • reduction of muscle tension and relief after strain,
          • reduction of back pain,
          • tension reduction, relaxation,
          • reducing the feeling of pain after surgery and injuries,
          • reduction of pain resulting from rheumatism in inflammation of the joints,
          • prevention of stretch marks during pregnancy,
          • improvement of lymph and blood circulation,
          • reducing the likelihood of injury by stabilizing joints and protecting tendons,
          • eliminating the feeling of limited range of limb movements,
          • quicker return to the figure after the previous form,
          • reducing the risk of painful cramps in people at night and athletes.

Interestingly, it has been proven that this type of physiotherapy also affects scars. Tests have shown that patients using this method have seen a reduction in adhesions or pitting. The patches applied to the skin increase the elasticity of scars, make them shallow and reduce muscle contractures.

Kinesiotaping – popular techniques

Taping uses 6 different techniques that affect the body’s functions in different ways.

          • mechanical – used to improve the stability and biomechanics of the locomotor system,
          • spatial – used to eliminate pressure in a specific area of the tissue,
          • fascial – affects the movements of the fascia,
          • functional – used for sensory stimulation, supports joint mobility,
          • circulatory / lymphatic – supports the flow of lymphatic fluid from areas with a large accumulation of this fluid to places where it is missing,
ligaments / tendons – reduces pressure on these structures

When is it worth using kinesiotaping?

Inconspicuous patches stuck on the body are characterized by versatile action and are able to help many patients. Their great action can be used in virtually every ailment and health condition. Research studies have shown their positive effect in various ailments.
It is worth noting that they are completely safe for the patient. Dynamic taping is a great ad hoc support, although it should be remembered how important it is to undertake proper therapy conducted by a physiotherapist or a doctor. Taping gives instant results, because we will notice the improvement the next day after their application.
